Volunteer

There are numerous ways you can volunteer for It Shouldn’t Be Risky, ranging from high to low-commitment roles. For more information on the various roles available, please check out the list below.

  • Board of Directors: The Board of Directors is responsible for larger organizational decisions. Directors chair committees, or hold positions like “treasurer”. Board Directors commit to terms of three years. If you’d like to learn more about the responsibilities of our board and find out how you can join us in this capacity, please fill out this preliminary board member application.

  • Committee Members: It Shouldn’t Be Risky has four committees (events & programming, fundraising and donor relations, communications, and community relations) and have openings for volunteer committee members on all of them. Committee members do not have term limits. If you’d like to learn more about the responsibilities of our committee members and find out how you can join us in this capacity, please fill out this preliminary committee member application.

  • General Volunteer: We need volunteers to help us at the self-defence classes, at fundraising events, and with promotional style work like dropping off literature door to door, polling people on the street, and handing out information. If you’d like to sign up to be a general volunteer so we can reach out when we need you, please fill out this volunteer application.

Become a Self-Defense Trainer

We are looking for individuals who want to be certified as trainers for our program. No background in self-defence is necessary as we will get you the training that you need, although it is an asset. Our trainers will be certified in a specific style of self-defence and may be required to travel for the certification. If you’d like more information, please fill out this preliminary application.

Donate

The costs of running a program like this are quite high. If you’d like to help us with a donation, please see below. Please be aware that we are not currently registered as a Canadian charity (although we’ve begun the application process!), which means we cannot currently issue tax receipts.

Here are the ways you can donate:

  • Through GoFundMe. Click here to visit our GoFundMe page!

  • Our Website. Click here to visit the donation page.

  • Via Etransfer (if you’re in Canada). Etransfer is one of the best ways to support us, as there are no processing fees for us when we receive your donation. If you want to support us in this way, you can send your etransfer to info@itshouldntberisky.ca.

  • By cheque. If you’d like to send us a cheque, you can send it to:

Please be aware that we are not currently a registered charity in Canada and we cannot issue tax receipts. We are in the process of applying for charitable status and will update this page when we have it.
