We are highlighting them because we want you to be aware of your rights, and what support is available to you if your rights have been violated. If you are aware of any resources that we have not listed, please contact us so we can update the list.

Winnipeg Police Service

If you need to report a crime you can do so by phone, or in person. If by phone:

  • Emergency or crime in progress, call: 9‑1‑1

  • Non-emergency calls: 204‑986‑6222

  • Non-emergency French language services: 204-986-7705

If in person, you’ll need to go to the Police Headquarters downtown (245 Smith Street, Winnipeg MB). They are open every day from 8:00am – 5:00pm.

Manitoba Victims Services

From their Website: Manitoba Justice Victim Services supports victims of serious crimes, as outlined in The Victims’ Bill of Rights. This includes victims of domestic violence and other serious crimes, such as murders and sexual assaults. Victim Services also provides support to child victims, witnesses, and families of murdered and missing Indigenous persons. Victim Services offers support to all individuals under the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights. Victim Services helps people access their rights, understand their responsibilities. They also connect people to other agencies and useful resources, as they move through the justice system.

Manitoba Domestic Violence Victims Services

From their Website: Domestic Violence Support Service helps victims of domestic violence in Manitoba when criminal charges have been laid and assists individuals who receive police services for domestic violence incidents that do not result in charges or arrests.

Manitoba Compensation for Victims of Crime Program

From their Website: The Compensation for Victims of Crime program provides compensation to victims who suffer personal injury, hardships or expenses as a result of certain crimes. These crimes are outlined in the Victims’ Rights Regulation of The Victims’ Bill of Rights. The program is also available to specific relatives and dependants of victims of homicide in Manitoba. If someone has been injured as a result of a crime, or someone is an immediate family member of a person killed due to a crime, that person may be entitled to compensation. People may also be compensated if they were injured while helping a police officer or while trying to prevent a crime. To apply for compensation, the offender does not need to have been caught. However, a formal report must be made to the police.

Klinic Crisis Support

From their Website: The Klinic Crisis Program operates a variety of crisis phone lines and online support services, providing free and confidential counselling, support and referrals for people who are suicidal, in crisis or struggling to cope.

Klinic Evolve

From their Website: Women’s Evolve provides counselling to women who have experienced emotional, verbal, physical, sexual or financial abuse in an intimate partner relationship. Women may be experiencing abuse by a current partner or the abuse may have occurred in a past relationship. Domestic abuse counselling can help women to explore their current safety/protection needs and to deal with the effects of domestic abuse. Individual and group counselling are available.

Legal Aid Manitoba

From their Website: Legal Aid Manitoba (LAM) works to ensure that eligible Manitobans have access to justice, including those who are disadvantaged and facing a well-resourced individual or entity in court—from women fleeing abusive relationships to immigrants facing deportation to same-sex families fighting for inclusion. Our work contributes to the efficiency of the courts across Manitoba, with positive impacts on the lives of individuals and the overall health of our communities.

Sexual Assault Recovery and Healing (SARAH)

From their Website: The SARAH (Sexual Assault Recovery and Healing) Program provides 24/7 crisis support, long-term counselling, support groups, advocacy, and referrals to those affected by sexual violence in Interlake-Eastern Manitoba.
